The Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri case

Ali Al-Marri, a citizen of Qatar, graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. On Sept. 10, 2001, al-Marri returned to Peoria with his family to become a graduate student at Bradley University.

Arrested in December 2001, al-Marri was indicted on credit card fraud and lying to the FBI. The government accuses al-Marri of being an al-Qaeda operative who came to the US to assist in a second wave of terrorist attacks. Al-Marri has denied all charges.

Declared an "enemy combatant" by President Bush on June 23, 2003, al-Marri is now being held in a military prison and denied his constitutional rights.
