Mr. Horowitz lists me as a member of the Nation of Islam, which I am not, nor have I ever been. My specialty is Islam in America and I research all of the Muslim communities, whether indigenous or immigrant. One of the texts he lists by Prof. Nasr is intended as an Intro. to Islam not a contemporary analysis of the Muslim world. He also mischaracterizes my Middle East course and does not list the other texts used in the course - this course uses biography, autobiography and fictional biography from the three main traditions present in Israel - Orthodox Christianity, Judaism and Islam. He accuses me of bad treatment of students. My courses are electives and over 4,000 students have signed up for them because they want to know. Many of those have taken more than one course so they obviously do not find me a hateful teacher when they could easily have chosen from over a hundred other courses in religious studies. His libelous and slanderous assertions cause a great deal of damage to those who do not know anything about the subject matter. He has increased the size of my courses, however.
